Current method (The Export & Import method):

Currently, if we want all our users to work with the same tool palettes, we have to follow the following steps after every change we will do to the tool palette:

1. From the computer that made the changes to the tool palette, Right Click the tool palette and go into the customize palette dialog.
2. Export each of the changed tool palette to a new *.xtp file and save it to a shared network location.
3. From every computer that uses these tool palettes go into the customize palette dialog.
4. Import each of the changed tool palette from the new *.xtp file.

The new method (The Shared Tool Palette Method):

Establish a common base line.

1. Select a computer (or computers) within your network to act as your source computer (publisher).
2. Build over this computer your tool palettes the way you want them to be.
3. Export the *.xtg (Tool Pallete Group) file to a known location.
4. Go into the options dialog → Files (Tab) →Tool Palette file location → Copy the path.
   Default location will be:
   C:\Users\<Current User>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\R23.0\enu\support\ToolPalette
5. Copy the content of the ToolPalette folder to a shared network location (*.atc & special icons folder).
6. Copy the *.xtg to a shared network location.
7. (optional) Rename the *.atc file to the name of the package you are building.
8. (optional) Open & Edit the *.atc file using Notepadd++ and edit it as an *.xml file.
   Best if you will use this method only to delete Buttons/Palettes/Groups.

IT Permissions.

Set the permissions of the shared network location to read only for all of your designers and to full control to the CAD admin group.

This step is very important and should not be over looked since that the AutoCAD tool palette mechanism will always try to open the tool palette files with the highest permission possible and then you might encounter a situation that you will try to update the tool palette but then when a designer will close his AutoCAD he will overwrite your work with his (none changed) tool palette.

Connect all computer to the shared network location.

From each computer you want to connect to the shared tool palette.

1. Go into the options dialog → Files (Tab) →Tool Palette file location → Delete the currently Set path and add a path to the shared network location.
2. Go into the customize palette dialog and Import the shared *.xtg (Tool Pallete Group)

Every change you will make to the tool palette from your Source/publisher computer will be reflected at the destinations/subscriber computers.

The *.atc file.

The *.atc file is an xml file used as a single file container that merge into it few *.xtp files.

When we will point the AutoCAD to the shared *.atc file it will bring the tool pelettes from it into the customize palette dialog to arrange the tool pelettes into groups in the same way as it is in the Source/publisher computer we will have to import the *.xtg (Tool Pallete Group) file.

Troubleshooting.

1. With some of the computers I run into an issue that I could not remove existing path from the Tool Palette File Location under Options → search path.
   the solution I found was to delete it using the registry.
   Path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R23.0\ACAD-2017:409\Profiles\<<Unnamed Profile>>\General
   Key Name: ToolPalettePath

(the key contains all the paths listed under Tool Palette File Location within one value so delete only the path you wish to delete)
